About the Role

Moorings Park is seeking a Renovation & Construction Intern. This internship offers candidates hands‑on exposure to the facilities and construction operations within a regulated senior living environment. The role provides dual support to the VP of Strategic Development and the Director of Renovation and Construction Services, assisting with the oversight of residential apartment renovations and capital projects across the Moorings Park campuses. In addition, the intern will collaborate with and support team members throughout the department and the broader Moorings Park Institute (MPI), gaining insight into cross‑functional processes and project execution.

What will you do?

  • Provides support to the VP of Strategic Development and the MPI on designated projects that may include, but not be limited to the following: 
    • Supports the Work Order / Facilities Team 
    • Supports with RFP development and solicitations as needed by MPI
    • Supports with special assignments, tasks, and projects as designated by the VP of Strategic Development. 
  • Supports the Director of Construction and Design Services with key administrative tasks, including opening and closing capital projects, organizing and updating project schedules, maintaining project records (contracts, purchase orders, pay applications, closeout documents), and assisting with staff onboarding and training materials.
  • Assists with reviewing invoices by comparing them to contracted bid amounts, coding and submitting invoices for approval, and helping prepare monthly cost reports to track project progress.
  • Helps gather cost proposals for assigned work, assist in preparing bid tabulations, and participate in internal reviews for accuracy and completeness.
  • Manages small‑scale renovation tasks such as obtaining contractor proposals for painting, flooring, cleaning, and other enhancement projects as assigned.
  • Collaborates with contractors and internal teams to support the development of construction drawings, specifications, and details needed for permitting assisted living apartment renovations across Moorings Park campuses.
  • Assists in preparing project scopes of work, scheduling contractors, and performing basic quality control and quality assurance checks to help ensure timely, high‑quality project completion.
  • Uses project management software to help track and manage ongoing projects and departmental workflows.
  • Demonstrates developing leadership and coordination skills when interacting with contractors and supporting project activities.
  • Participates in required safety and emergency preparedness training, including procedures for fire alarms, hurricanes, and other potential emergencies.
  • Works collaboratively and professionally with team members while upholding Moorings Park’s Mission, Vision, Values, and Standards of Behavior.
  • Shows initiative in learning new skills, increasing competency, and contributing to departmental goals.
  • Follows all OSHA and HIPAA regulations, as well as the Moorings Park Contractor Safety Manual.

    What were looking for?
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training in building, construction, or maintenance trades preferred; or currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Facilities Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • A current Florida driver’s license, clean driving record, proof of insurance and reliable transportation are required 
  • Commitment to a five (5) month internship program, or as defined by the participant’s educational institution semester schedule.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule within standard business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM), totaling approximately 10 hours per week.
  • Ability to successfully complete all internship program requirements, including submission of a Final Internship Report and Reflective Essay evaluating overall experience, professional development, and understanding of assigned responsibilities.
  • Must complete a comprehensive written report that includes:
    • Overview of Internship Role: Summary of department, key responsibilities, and types of projects or tasks completed.
    • Skills and Knowledge Gained: Explanation of technical, professional, and interpersonal skills developed during the internship.
    • Project Contributions: Description of specific assignments, projects, or activities supported, including outcomes and lessons learned.
    • Workplace Experience: Observations regarding the work environment, collaboration with staff, and exposure to industry practices.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language required.
