Position: Program Assistant (L'Arche Canada - Summer Jobs Program)

Start date: June 2026

Location: I Belong Center

Hourly salary: $18.25 - $22.40

Duration: 9 weeks between June 2026- August 31, 2026

Responsible to: IBC Coordinator 

Hours: 30 hours per week

 



L’Arche Comox Valley is seeking a dedicated student to fill the role of Canada Summer Student Job Grant. This position will run for nine (9) weeks, thirty (30) hours/week, for 270 hours. The start date/end date can be flexible. 

L'Arche Comox Valley is an intentional community of people with and without intellectual disabilities sharing life together. As part of our mission to reveal the gifts of people with intellectual disabilities, we support people in our day programs to access opportunities in our wider local community. 

This position is an active, supportive role providing support to persons with developmental disabilities. 

In this role, your primary duty is to support people with developmental disabilities in their daily lives. 

Skills to be Demonstrated

  • Ability to develop healthy, respectful, and appropriate relationships of mutuality with persons with disabilities and all other people in the Community. 
  • Ability to maintain a familiar, comfortable, and culturally appropriate environment for persons with developmental disabilities.
  • You must maintain confidentiality. 
  • Must foster a welcoming atmosphere for all living, working, and visiting the home.
  • Organize access to program/home activities, and plans that facilitate the active involvement of Core Members in meaningful work, volunteer, and recreational activities in program, home, and community settings. empowering core members to make choices that will ensure that they have a meaningful & engaging day

Qualifications:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the summer employment period. 
  • Genuine desire to understand and participate in the mission and vision of L’Arche.
  • Experience with people with developmental disabilities is an asset. 
  • First Aid/CPR Certification is an asset. 
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. 
  • Satisfactory Police Information Check (vulnerable sector). 
  • Be available for nine (9) weeks, thirty (30) hours/week, for270 hours

Responsibilities 

You will be fully trained and not work alone. You will not do personal care (toileting, bathing, washing, brushing teeth/hair, flossing, changing adult disposable briefs, etc. by yourself; another assistant might assist you.

This position will run for nine (9) weeks, thirty (30) hours/week, for 270 hours.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with people with disabilities is an asset
  • Acceptable Criminal record check  (required)
  • Be available to work some evenings and weekends
