Position Summary

The Systems Administrator Intern will support infrastructure and operational activities within an aerial surveillance system for a Department of Defense customer. This role provides hands-on experience with system administration, virtualization, cybersecurity, and network support in a mission-critical setting. The intern will assist with system deployment, configuration, and maintenance, and contribute to efforts to ensure system performance, reliability, and security.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position will report to the Software Infrastructure Manager, Engineering and will coordinate closely with the QA, Software Development, and Systems Engineering teams.

  • Support day-to-day system administration activities across the system environment.
  • Assist with virtualization efforts, including deploying and configuring virtual machines within a VMware environment.
  • Help monitor system health and performance, identifying and reporting issues as needed.
  • Contributes to cybersecurity initiatives, including system hardening, patching, and compliance-related activities.
  • Assist with applying updates, patches, and configuration changes to maintain system integrity and security.
  • Provide support for basic network configuration and troubleshooting tasks.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and changes.
  • Collaborate with system administrators, network engineers, and cybersecurity personnel to support operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related field. 
  • Basic understanding of operating systems (Linux)
  • Must be geographically located within a commutable distance to the Trident location 
  • US Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware).
  • Basic experience with system administration tasks (user management, system updates, etc.).
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity concepts such as patching, system hardening, or vulnerability scanning.
  • Experience with Linux command line or scripting (e.g., Bash, PowerShell).
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate results effectively.
  • Experience with GIT and Jira is preferred
