This challenge awaits you:

The design of thermal management systems for electric vehicles involves balancing safety, comfort and range, and is becoming increasingly complex as systems grow in complexity.
This is precisely where we come in: we are developing a tool that combines simulation, optimisation and AI to explore new thermal management concepts more quickly and systematically.

To help us take this project forward, we are looking for students who can code independently, are just getting to grips with AI, and are keen to turn complex simulation problems into a usable tool using innovative approaches, rather than following a standard formula.

Your Tasks:

  • You will analyse the existing thermal management design tool and identify technical, methodological and conceptual weaknesses.
  • You will develop potential solutions using AI and optimisation methods, not as an end in itself, but with a focus on the tool’s usability and performance.
  • You will expand and improve simulation models and interfaces, e.g. through your own programming solutions.
  • You will validate results using real-world or simulation data and learn to critically evaluate models.
  • You will contribute your own ideas and help develop the tool’s functionality: How should it be designed so that engineers actually want to use it?

Necessary Skills:

  • Currently studying computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or a similar subject
  • Basic programming experience, ideally in Python or a similar language
  • An interest in AI, optimisation or automation methods (including from courses or personal projects)
  • Willingness to familiarise yourself independently with new topics, tools and models
  • Ability to work in a team, a structured approach to work and motivation to solve complex technical problems
  • Good command of English (at least B2 level) and German at least at C1 level

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with simulation or model-based development (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink, GT-Suite)
  • Some experience with thermal management or vehicle systems
  • Experience gained from your own projects, hackathons or university projects where you have carried out development work yourself
  • A passion for experimentation, out-of-the-box thinking and an iterative approach

The salary is based on our collective wage and salary agreement. The current monthly salary for this position is EUR 1.012.
