About the Role
POSITION SUMMARY: Miami County Public Health is seeking an intern to work this summer in the Environmental Health Division. The internship will be for ten weeks starting June 1, 2026 to August 14, 2026 (400 hours). The intern will be paid $14.00/hr. and will be expected to work Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The 400 hours may be split up throughout the summer to accommodate a vacation or days off. Applicants must have a valid Ohio driver’s license, in good standing and proof of automobile insurance. The intern will need to provide their own transportation in the performance of their duties and will be reimbursed at the federal mileage reimbursement rate which is currently $0.725 per mile.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be a college student working toward a bachelor’s or advanced Degree in an Environmental Health or related program.

A valid Ohio driver’s license with own vehicle and ability to maintain a driving record that meets the insurability requirements of Miami County Public Health’s insurance provider.

DUTIES: Responsible for mosquito surveillance and reporting program. This includes setting and collecting mosquito traps throughout Miami County. The candidate must be comfortable working outdoors, track locations and other details associated with the mosquito traps. Complete any associated paperwork, reach out to the community to provide mosquito control education, report observations and conversations to a sanitarian after investigating a mosquito public health nuisance complaint, some data entry of information collected in the field and may assist with report writing, other duties as assigned.
