Denver Botanic Gardens is currently seeking a Finance and Accounting Intern in our Accounting and Finance Department for an 8–12-week internship! Read below to see if the requirements might be a good fit for you:



Position Summary

This position is a motivated and detail-oriented Finance and Accounting Intern position to support the Finance department in its day-to-day operations. This intern will learn about and assist with accounts payable and receivable processing, data entry, account reconciliations, and financial reporting. 


Requirements

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with accounts payable and receivable processing, including invoice entry and payment tracking.
  • Performs data entry and maintains accurate financial records in accounting software.
  • Supports monthly account reconciliations and assists in identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Assists in the preparation of financial reports and summaries for internal use.
  • Helps track grant expenditures and ensure proper coding of transactions.
  • Supports the budgeting process by compiling and organizing financial data.
  • Assists with audit preparation by gathering and organizing supporting documentation.
  • Responds to internal inquiries regarding financial transactions and records.
  • Performs general administrative tasks in support of the Finance department
  • Maintains confidentiality of all sensitive financial information in accordance with organizational policies. 
  • Regular attendance at the worksite may be required. As with all positions at Denver Botanic Gardens, the incumbent must be in good performance standing to be eligible for remote work. Remote work is at the discretion of management at all times.

Position Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Financial Statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow).
  • Knowledge of basic bookkeeping and journal entries.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must have proven excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills in dealing with the public.
  • Ability to maintain stability under pressure and able to deal well with stressful situations.
  • Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans, when necessary, throughout the day.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams.  
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary.
  • Must be a positive representative of the Gardens both internally and externally at all times.
  • Must work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and the public.
  • Must be committed to working safely at all times.


Experience/Education:

  • High school diploma / GED and/or combination of education and equivalent experience is required. 
  • Pursuing a degree in Accounting and Finance field is preferred.



Travel:

Negligible travel required. Requires the ability to travel to remote locations (or other Garden locations) where environment may vary significantly.
