About the Role

Description

The Manufacturing / Industrial Engineering Intern will support shop-floor operations and continuous improvement initiatives within a PDC (Power Distribution Center), eHouse, and switchgear manufacturing environment. This role will work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and standardize processes for both new and existing programs. The intern will gain hands-on experience applying Lean manufacturing principles, developing procedures, optimizing shop layouts, and supporting daily manufacturing operations.

Requirements

· Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean manufacturing principles (e.g., waste reduction, 5S, visual management) 

· Assist in developing, updating, and standardizing work instructions and manufacturing procedures 

· Participate in shop layout optimization, including material flow, workstation design, and space utilization 

· Conduct time studies and analyze production data to identify inefficiencies and bottlenecks Collaborate with production teams to implement process improvements for new and existing product lines

· Support Value Stream Mapping (VSM) activities and identify opportunities to improve flow and reduce lead time 

· Assist with implementation of visual management tools and shop-floor organization efforts 

· Help track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) such as productivity, cycle time, and quality metrics 

· Work with engineering and quality teams to support root cause analysis and corrective actions Participate in daily production meetings and provide engineering support to resolve shop issues 

· Assist in documenting and maintaining process changes for configuration-controlled environments (typical in switchgear/eHouse builds)
