About the Role

Okayplayer is looking for a creative, culturally plugged-in Social Media Intern to focus on TikTok content for the Okayplayer brand. This role involves developing and executing daily content, engaging with the community, covering events, organizing digital assets, and creating trend-focused storytelling.

This is a hands-on internship designed for a candidate ready to contribute fresh ideas, develop distinctive visuals, and influence the editorial voice of the Okayplayer brand. Core responsibilities include the following:

  • TikTok Strategy & Growth: Lead the planning, creation, and posting of original TikTok content. Consistently monitor platform trends, proactively propose weekly content ideas, and execute strategies to drive significant channel growth.
  • Short-Form Video Production: Expertly edit videos and motion graphics using tools like Premiere Pro, After Effects, Canva, and Photoshop. Create timely, high-quality, platform-native visuals that enhance brand voice and maximize engagement.
  • Content Curation & Clipping: Actively watch and review Okayplayer's long-form content to identify compelling, high-impact moments. Pull, edit, and repurpose these clips for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and Stories, ensuring contextual relevance.
  • Real-Time Event Coverage (NYC Focus): Identify and attend relevant cultural events, shoots, and brand activations in New York City. Capture engaging, social-first content, and handle real-time or near real-time posting and publishing as required.
  • Trend Monitoring & Cultural Pitching: Maintain a deep awareness of current social and cultural trends. Use this insight to pitch timely, brand-aligned concepts that resonate with the voice and values of the Okayplayer audience.
  • Asset Management & Organization: Manage all digital assets, including raw and edited content. Maintain clean, organized internal folders, ensuring all brand assets are properly labeled, filed, and easily accessible to the wider team.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as a key collaborator with the editorial, partnerships, and design teams to ensure social content is seamlessly integrated and aligned with broader campaigns, coverage plans, and brand initiatives.

To thrive in this role, you must be deeply immersed in the culture we represent. Successful candidates will possess the following qualities or experience:

  • Deep passion for and strong knowledge of Black culture, music, lifestyle, and the New York City events scene.
  • Proven ability to create content for brands or personal use on major social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter/X.
  • Comfortable with the end-to-end content creation process: filming, editing, writing engaging captions, and posting across various platforms.
  • Excellent aesthetic judgment and a high level of detail-orientation in both visual and written content.
  • Highly organized, capable of effective file management, meeting strict deadlines, and prioritizing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed both independently and within a collaborative team environment.

Technical Proficiencies:

  • Software Proficiency: Skilled in Video Editing, Instagram, and Twitter/X.
  • Tools: Experience using Canva, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects.
  • Content Capture: Experience creating high-quality content using a smartphone or DSLR camera.
