About the Role

Organisation and Department: Elsevier, STMJ

Role and hours: Journals Editorial Intern– 35 hours per week

Location: Home Based Role with the opportunity to visit a local office

Salary: £27,000 annually for London and £24,500 for rest of UK (pro rata)

Responsibilities:  

We are seeking an Intern to join our Life and Social Sciences team. In this role, you will assist Publishers, Publishing Directors, Administrative Coordinators, Journal Managers, and other staff members. You will spend time working alongside different team members, learning about their daily tasks and responsibilities. Your work will include supporting projects aimed at making the publishing process smoother for authors and helping to develop our journals. This role offers a broad introduction to academic journal publishing and involves both collaborative work with the team and independent tasks. Your contributions will help improve how we manage and deliver our publications, making this role important for maintaining the quality and growth of our journals.

Skills or experiences

  • Taking ownership of interesting and varied administration tasks, supporting the publisher in the smooth running and success of our journals.

  • Undertaking market research to define specific emerging scientific areas of research and presenting outcomes to internal and external editors

  • Gathering data, information, and facts by using existing reports. Including building analyses for publishers to use in proposals, reports, editorial appointments and meetings.

  •  Managing various systems to ensure that data is up to date and accurate.

  • Assisting Publishers in journal development to accelerate growth of published content through market research and topic analysis.

  • Teamworking: you will need to work closely with team members and other publishing colleagues to help deliver on collaborative projects and goals.
