About The Company
Sagamok First Nation is located on the north shore of Lake Huron. It is a beautiful community whose name means 'two points joining'. Sagamok's culture and language is Anishinabek and is made up of the Ojibwe, Odawa and Pottawatomi tribes. Also known as the Three Fires Peoples, the community members of Sagamok number well over 2800. A little over 50% of the membership lives on reserve, with the remainder living in urban locations. Sagamok is a place of rich stories, legends and history that derive from time immemorial. Once the summer camps of the original peoples who came down from Biscotasing, it is now the permanent home to many of those descendents. About the Role

SUMMER STUDENT JOB OPPORTUNITY

Daycare Assistant - Education

Salary Range: $20.00 per hour




JOB SUMMARY:


To observe and uphold all policies, procedures, and practices of Sagamok Anishnawbek and Shki Waase-Aaban Binoojiinh Gamik.

The participant will perform the following under supervision of the Daycare Manager.

 

POSITION DUTIES:

  • Ensure that direct engagement with the children through play is at the forefront of each day.
  • Plan and carry out developmentally appropriate activities and experiences in harmony with the Centre’s program statement.
  • Assist children in expressing themselves by listening and responding with questions or comments that extend conversations.
  • Ensure that childcare routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic and consistent with good child development principles – eating, napping and transitions between activities.
  • Help children develop practice of caring for self and picking up and putting away toys, books, and other materials and equipment.
  • Serve snacks and refreshments to children.
  • Engage and communicate effectively with staff, parent(s) and/or guardian(s).
  • Assist with the responsibilities for cleaning and sanitizing playroom, toys, and equipment according to procedure.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties relevant to the program as assigned by the Manager or designate.


 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must demonstrate enrollment as a full-time student in the previous academic semester school and be returning full time in the fall of 2025/2026 Academic school year.
  • Must be eligible for Sagamok Anishnawbek ISETP program funding (member of Sagamok, valid SIN #)
  • Must have, or be willing to obtain, First Aid, WHIMIS, & Health and Safety in 4 Steps
