Why You’ll Love This Role

The Mechanical Engineering Co-op Student will support the mechanical engineering team on a variety of ongoing projects. This role offers hands-on experience in design, analysis, thermal and vibration testing, as well as prototyping. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work at the forefront of the industry, gaining exposure to opto-mechanical design and its applications in data centers. This is a unique chance to contribute to cutting-edge advancements in telecommunications technology.

The Opportunity

  • Duration: 4 – 12 months starting September 2026 (8+ months preferred)
  • Pay Range: $24-35/hr

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Create and modify 3D models of mechanical parts and assemblies using CAD software.
  • Support the development and validation of thermal management solutions for telecom systems.
  • Development and testing of prototypes for durability and compliance with industry standards.
  • Dynamic analysis and testing of systems exposed to shock and vibration based on industry standards.
  • Create and revise engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, reports, and presentations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and project managers.

What We're Looking For

Education:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Completion of at least 3rd year of study preferred.
  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and basic engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with CAD tools.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work independently.
  • Excellent communication, technical report writing and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity of GD&T and tolerance analysis.
  • Exposure to FEA/CFD analysis (Ansys, Icepak).
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes (e.g. machining, sheet metal fabrication, 3D printing).
  • Strong team player.
  • Highly motivated and quick to learn new concepts.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Able to operate in a high pace design environment and adapt to changes.
