Summary of Position/Purpose:
The successful Project Coordinator Intern is a rotational summer position designed to provide hands-on exposure to Custom Residential Mechanical Construction, system design, project management and field coordination.
The intern will support the Custom Homes Team, gaining experience in HVAC, plumbing, and hydronic system layouts, drafting tools, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders; work alongside Project Managers and field teams to assist with project execution, documentation, scheduling, and communication.
This role is ideal for individuals pursuing a career in construction management, mechanical systems, or engineering who are eager to learn both the technical design and field operations sides of the business.
Role and Responsibilities
Primary Function:
- Support Project Managers with project setup, coordination, and closeout activities.
- Assist with maintaining project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, and permits.
- Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and field teams to support project schedules.
- Track materials, deliveries, and project progress.
- Obtain Procore Certification, assist with document management within Procore.
- Participate in job site visits to gain exposure to field operations and installation practices.
- Assist with communication between office and field teams to ensure alignment.
- Support basic billing and job tracking processes.
Secondary Function:
- Assist with HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical system layouts for residential and some commercial projects.
- Support the creation and modification of drawings using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Participate in design coordination meetings with internal teams and external partners.
- Help review plans, identify conflicts, and support basic problem-solving efforts.
- Learn applicable mechanical and plumbing codes and industry standards.
- Assist in preparing basic documentation, layouts, and reports.
Qualifications and education requirements
- High school diploma or GED minimum
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field desired
- Strong interest in HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical construction
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Exposure to AutoCAD or Revit is a plus but not required
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
