The Role: The Communications Intern supports One Family Illinois’ outreach and branding by assisting with content creation, social media management, special events planning, graphic design, campaign support, and communications projects that engage donors, elevate our reputation, and amplify our mission to advance the safety and well-being of children by keeping siblings together in foster care, empowering youth, nurturing strong families, and developing community connection.

Key Responsibilities:
Content Creation & Writing
- Adapt messages for different audiences
- Proofreading and editing for clarity and tone
- Blog posts
- E-newsletters
- Press releases
- Brochures
- Event promotions
Social Media Support
- Schedule posting across multiple platforms using online tools
- Create posts and reels
- Monitor, review, and report analytics
- Identify and share relevant social media trends
Graphic Design Assistance
- Banners, flyers, posters, swag, and other as needed
- Help organize photo/video libraries
Special Event Planning & Executing
- Managing invite lists, responses, setting up, on-site staffing, breaking down, etc.
Administrative Support
- Maintain communications calendars
- Organize shared files and assets
- Attend team meetings and take notes
- Help track deadlines and deliverables
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Rising college juniors or recent graduates with majors in communications, public relations, marketing, or related experience.
- Maintain a 3.0 or above grade point average
- Previous work or volunteer experience in a professional or non-profit environment is a plus
- Ability to pass DCFS required criminal background check including CANTS/SACWIS and SORS.
- Valid Illinois driver’s license with acceptable driving record; insured and reliable transportation, as the position will be split between Villages and will be involved within the communities.
- Willingness to travel within the community and to the various agency sites.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evening and weekends. Schedule may regularly be later mornings to evenings on weekdays and weekends depending on activities scheduled. Schedule to be finalized with the supervisor.
- Sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients and staff.
- Ability to relate to the Agency staff and to the public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential materials.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to work in an alcohol, tobacco, and drug-free environment.
