Job Description

The National Wind Technology Center is seeking an intern to work with researchers on atmospheric data analysis for extreme weather detection and infrastructure reliability. The candidate with help to collect and analyze environmental data from remote sensing instruments collected at the NLR Flatirons Campus. The experimental site is in a geographic location subject to frequent extreme weather and hosts a suite of essential energy infrastructures, including grid assets, energy generators, and storage devices. The goal is to build a science-quality dataset of key atmospheric drivers of infrastructural hazard and quantify the impact of extreme weather on NLR assets. The candidate will work collaboratively with other researchers and technicians at the National Laboratory of the Rockies.

The bulk of the data analysis will be focused on dual-Doppler lidar measurements collected through cutting-edge technology that provides spatially and temporally resolved wind measurements over large areas. The analysis process includes data management, quality control, wind retrieval, and documentation.

The candidate will be expected to help publish results in technical journals/conference proceedings and help present work at conferences, symposia, and sponsor review meetings.
