Position Scope

The Process Engineer Co-op (OPS) is responsible for supporting engineering and operating activities at Carbon Engineering’s Innovation Centre. The role collaborates with the engineering and production team to support improvements to process units, execution test campaign, data analysis, and plant troubleshooting.  

  • This position is an 8-12 month co-op starting September 2026. 
  • This position is on-site and based in Squamish, BC.
  • Relocation support is provided, including first 4 weeks company paid accommodation
  • This position pays $22-26/hour. 

Health, Safety and Environment

  • Demonstrate a positive safety culture. 
  • Identify, report and resolve unsafe conditions, processes or actions within the workplace. 
  • Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy. 

Technical

  • Process Troubleshooting and Continuous Improvement.
    • Support the production and engineering teams to troubleshoot plant issues through a combination of in field assessments, reviewing of drawing and documentation, review of plant data.
    • Contribute to non-conformance system for all process upsets and deviations from operating intentions to support continuous improvement.
    • Perform event investigations and generate suggest actions to avoid process deviances in the future.
  • Support Operational Execution of test campaigns.
    • Support communication of test campaign objectives and results with Production team
    • Support activities to ensure plant readiness and plant performance is suitable for test campaigns.
    • Support activities to improve oversight and maintenance of plant performance (development of dashboards and trends).
  • Process and Engineering Documentation
    • Support the development and maintenance of SOPs.
    • MoCs – Support the execution of plant modifications through participation in the MoC process.
    • Engineering documents – Support the updating and accuracy of our engineering drawings.
  • Data Analysis and Report Generation
    • Collect and assimilate plant data and lab results.
    • Review plant data and analyze system performance against the test campaign objectives.
    • Document results, analysis and interpretation of plant performance into technical reports, presentations and other communications.

Education and Experience

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in Canadian post secondary institute (2nd,3rd, or 4th year)
  • Preference to candidates in a relevant BEng program (Chemical, Process, Systems, Mechanical)

Experience:

  • Motivated curiosity and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and noisy work environment. 
  • Safe handling of chemical products is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Thrive on doing things that have not been done before (explorer mindset). 

Key Competencies:

  • Comfortable in a chemical/plant environment
  • Strong understanding of core engineering principles (thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, fluid dynamics)
  • Thrive on doing things that have not been done before (explorer mindset).
