About the Role

Human Resources Intern (Part-Time) – City of McFarland

Salary: $16.90/hour

Schedule: 20–25 hours per week

Duration: 12–16 weeks

Position Summary

The City of McFarland is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Human Resources Intern to support daily operations within the Human Resources Department. This internship provides hands-on experience in municipal HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee records management, and general administrative processes that support effective workforce operations.

This opportunity is open to both current students and recent graduates, including individuals seeking post-college or graduate-level internship experience in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with organizing and maintaining employee and HR records in accordance with confidentiality standards
  • Support recruitment and onboarding processes, including data entry, scheduling, and document preparation
  • Assist with tracking employee information, trainings, and HR-related documentation
  • Shadow Human Resources staff to gain exposure to municipal HR operations and public sector administration
  • Provide general administrative support to the Human Resources Department as needed, including filing, correspondence, and special projects

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated (within the past 12 months) from, an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field

GPA:

  • Minimum 3.0

Residency:

  • Must reside in Kern County

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to provide transcripts (official or unofficial) verifying academic status
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications preferred
