About the Role

Description

About Evans Transportation

Evans Transportation Services is a non asset based third party logistics provider helping companies move freight more efficiently across truckload, LTL, managed transportation, parcel, international, and heavy haul. We deliver value through cost savings, operational reliability, and visibility.

This internship sits at the intersection of finance, operations, and strategy. It is a real seat at the table, not a coffee run.

The Opportunity

Evans is evaluating a move into asset ownership through two complementary strategies: acquiring small to mid sized heavy haul carriers (50 to 100 assets each) and deploying rolling capital on used equipment over our highest performing lanes. We need a sharp, analytical operator to help build the foundation.

This role is the primary builder of that foundation. You will work directly with the CFO and Chairman to develop the strategic, financial, and operational frameworks that determine whether and how Evans enters the asset side of the business.

What You Will Own

• Build a proprietary repository of 50 to 100 heavy haul carrier acquisition and partnership targets, fully scored and profiled.

• Co author the investment thesis and ideal target profile with Evans leadership.

• Develop the Evans Asset Strategy Model: pilot lane unit economics, full acquisition pro forma, capital structure scenarios, and tax overlay.

• Lead a tax strategy work session with Evans' tax advisor on OBBBA bonus depreciation, Section 179, and Opportunity Zone treatment.

• Adapt the Adams Power deal structure (down payment, EBITDA share, terminal multiple) for Evans use.

• Deliver one page strategic profiles on the top 25 priority targets with recommended approach.

• Stand up a live, filterable leadership dashboard.

• Execute approved outreach to 10 to 15 priority carriers and support initial leadership conversations.

• Document a repeatable sourcing playbook so Evans can continue after the internship.

• Deliver and present a final readout to Evans leadership and ownership.

What Success Looks Like

• 50 to 100 carriers in the repository, fully profiled and scored.

• 25 top tier strategic profiles with recommended approach (acquire, partner, monitor, pass).

• Working financial model with tax overlay, validated with Evans' tax advisor.

• 10+ outreach attempts, 3 to 5 active dialogues handed to Evans leadership.

• Evans is positioned to make a real go or no go decision on heavy haul asset strategy.

Who You Are

• MBA candidate or equivalent, ideally with a supply chain, operations, or finance background.

• Strong analytical foundation. Excel modeling fluency required. Comfort with ambiguity expected.

• Hands on experience evaluating deals, assets, or acquisition opportunities is a meaningful plus.

• Clear written and verbal communicator. Can present to executive audiences.

• Self starter mindset. You thrive in high trust, high responsibility environments.

• Genuine interest in investing, value creation, and operational improvement.

• Curious about the trucking and logistics industry. You do not need prior experience, but you should want to learn.

What You Will Get From Evans

• Direct mentorship from the CFO and senior operating leaders.

• Exposure to a real M&A and capital deployment process inside a private operating company.

• Tax advisor and banking conversations that few interns ever see.

• Site visits to operating heavy haul carriers and access to an industry event.

• A final artifact (repository, models, deck) you can credibly point to for the rest of your career.
