Department Overview:

The Office of Enrollment & Student Success (OESS) works collaboratively with partners in the Universities of Wisconsin and the state to ensure all students can access and succeed in college. Through strategic and student-centered policies, practices, and programs, our work fosters equitable and inclusive access and engagement to support each student’s ability to realize their educational goals and personal potential. 

Through the Direct Admit Wisconsin (DAW) program, OESS partners with Wisconsin high schools to offer qualifying students streamlined, proactive admission to participating UWs and lower barriers to accessing a post-secondary education at the Universities of Wisconsin.

Schedule:

Between August 25 – September 2, 2026 

NOTE: Position is for 15 weeks, fall semester 2026 only (approx. Sep.-Dec.)  

WORK HOURS 
10-12 hours/week. Flexible, but must have some availability between 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. weekdays to contact high schools, and during business hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekdays) to coordinate with OESS team.  

WORK LOCATION 
Primarily remote; some in-person onboarding, training and meetings at Van Hise Hall, 1220 Linden Drive, Madison, WI 53706. 

Salary/Wage Range:

Hourly $17.00 to $17.00

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Direct Admit Wisconsin (DAW) Project Assistant will gather and organize data from Wisconsin high schools related to their math curriculum on behalf of the DAW program as part of a new initiative funded by a Lumina Foundation’s Great Admissions Redesign grant. (Fall semester 2026 only.) 

This Direct Admit Wisconsin grant project is led by the Office of Enrollment and Student Success working in collaboration with the Department of Public Instruction, UW universities, and high schools across the state. It aims to clarify expectations for college-preparatory math and leverage emerging AI technology to help identify college-preparatory classes at all high schools participating in Direct Admit Wisconsin.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Communicate with Wisconsin high schools participating in Direct Admit Wisconsin (500+) to request information (course descriptions and syllabi) by email and phone. 
  • Track the status of requests and responses from high schools. 
  • Effectively, efficiency and accurately receive and organize digital information.
  • Communicate and coordinate with OESS team members and prepare presentations on project status and issue resolution. 
  • Schedule meetings with key stakeholders and project partners.
  • Other grant-related duties, as assigned.
  • Opportunity to attend related professional and outreach events as arranged with supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom and working with shared drives and documents. 
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.  
  • Able to communicate professionally with a wide range of people. 
  • Comfortable making phone calls and navigating phone trees and voice mail.  
  • Able to assemble and organize documents and information for further analysis. 
  • Strong attention to detail. 
  • Good organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Resourceful, reliable, and self-starter. 
  • Must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at the Universities of Wisconsin.
