About the Role

Department Overview:

The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members and visitors through shared cultural, social and recreational events and experiences.

Anticipated Schedule

  • Schedule is flexible and will depend on student hiring needs. Will discuss with Unit Manager.

Minimum Hour Expecations

  • Students must be able to work a minimum of 4 Shifts or 16 hours a week.
  • More hours available if requested.

Unit Hours

  • Units are open 7 days a week, between 7am-11pm.
  • Memorial Union Retail includes Lakefront, Daily Scoop, the Barbeque Stand and Lakeview Lounge in the summer.

Salary/Wage Range:

Hourly $15.25 to $15.25

Position Summary/Job Duties:

  • Content Assistance

    • Assist with multimedia content development for internal and external platforms

    • Update various marketing project content

  • Data & Reporting

    • Use metrics to refine storytelling approaches and demonstrate impact.

  • Administrative Support

    • Translate existing tools and programs into clear, engaging narratives for stakeholders

    • Other administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

We are looking to hire 1-2 students as soon as possible! Students working towards a bachelor's degree in Business, HR or related field are encouraged to apply. Student must have at least one summer left before graduation. Student must have summer availability.

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, Business, or a related field.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as knowledge and interest in marketing and storytelling with strong attention to detail

  • Excellent customer service, judgment/problem-solving and organizational skills

  • Comfortable interpreting reports and providing analysis

  • Proficiency in design tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or Google Suite.

  • Self-motivated, organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks.

  • Creative mindset with interest in branding and digital media.

  • A strong interest in digital storytelling.

Student Status

To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Review UW Policy 5003- Student Hourly Employment for more information. If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester.
