About the Role

Job Summary

A Respiratory Tech Extern is a student currently in the Respiratory program who will perform various tasks to assist with departmental operations. This position provides experience in a clinical setting, supporting the respiratory team while complementing an academic learning program with real-life experience in a clinical respiratory setting. 

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Assists respiratory therapists with non-clinical tasks such as equipment preparation, cleaning, and inventory management.
  • Shadows licensed respiratory therapists to gain practical insights into patient care and procedures.
  • Maintains and organizes respiratory supplies and ensure proper storage.
  • Supports administrative tasks, including data entry, filing, and scheduling.
  • Adheres to all safety and confidentiality protocols within the department.
  • Performs related duties as directed.
     

Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program or planning to attend. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.

PREFERRED:

  • Basic knowledge of respiratory equipment and procedures.
