SUMMARY: The Resort Services Apprentice position is designed to provide hands-on, real-world experience in the hospitality maintenance field. This apprenticeship offers individuals—whether entering the workforce for the first time, changing careers, or lacking formal training—a structured opportunity to build essential maintenance and customer service skills. Apprentices will work side by side with full-time Resort Services staff, receiving mentorship and training across all major maintenance areas, including plumbing, electrical, routine upkeep, technology, safety, and sustainability. With a focus on integrating technical knowledge into a hospitality setting, this program prepares apprentices for potential long-term, full-time roles within Wintergreen Resort.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Learn the layout, facilities, and infrastructure of the resort to navigate and respond effectively to maintenance needs.
  • Participate in an introduction to Resort Services operations, expectations, and service standards.
  • Work alongside full-time maintenance staff to observe and assist in daily tasks while receiving mentorship and hands-on training.
  • Complete a structured competency checklist covering key skill areas including plumbing, electrical, fire and life safety, building systems, finishes, technology, and sustainability.
  • Develop effective communication and customer service skills tailored to a hospitality environment.
  • Complete the apprenticeship competency checklist as part of the program requirements; apprentices who successfully demonstrate skills and reliability may be offered full-time Technician positions at Wintergreen Resort, depending on performance, business needs, and interest.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Demonstrated motivation to learn and grow in the maintenance and hospitality field.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to receive mentorship, follow instructions, and complete all components of the apprenticeship competency checklist.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with guests and team members.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and adaptability in guest-facing situations within a hospitality environment.
  • No prior maintenance experience required; individuals with existing skills may progress through the program more quickly.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT(S):

  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain necessary certifications to meet AHLA (American Hotel & Lodging Association) apprenticeship program requirements.
  • Apprenticeship-related training and certification classes are fully covered through a scholarship, with no cost to the apprentice.
