About Farmers Market


For almost 15 years, AS has provided a weekly Farmers Market on campus. This program empowers our students with the option to make healthy food choices to aid their bodies and minds with fresh and organic (when possible), produce and natural food items while they support local farmers and businesses.

 

Position Details 


This position assists the Special Events Coordinator in planning and managing the AS Farmers Market, which includes but is not limited to, communicating with vendors, mapping vendor spaces, setting up the Farmers Market signs and booths.  This position will also work closely with the AS Food Pantry Student Coordinator and help facilitate that event. 


Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists in preparing documentation and paperwork as needed. 

  • Assists in recruiting and processing new vendors.

  • Coordinates collection of vendor fees.

  • Assists in signing students up to use EBT 

  • Coordinate with our Accounting team the proper payout our vendors receive from students using the EBT tokens.

  • Manages attainment and distribution of parking passes.

  • Assists in data collection, budgeting and purchasing of necessary supplies. 

  • Builds relationships with faculty, staff, and students to solicit their input and involvement for programming events.

  • Outreach to the campus community and local Bay Area communities to share programming and event information for Farmers Market.

  • Promotes the Farmers Market and updates events via social media outlets (Blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), and tables on campus to encourage participation and involvement in the Department’s work.

  • Disseminates relevant news and information regarding the Farmers Market to students, various campus departments, individuals, and organizations to keep them informed of scheduled programming.

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled at SFSU with a minimum of 6 units for undergraduates or 4 units for graduates

  • Ability to interface effectively with persons at all professional levels and within all cultural groups

  • Willingness to learn and grow beyond one’s current state of cross-cultural awareness.

  • Proficient with social media applications, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and handle projects/assignments, work independently, meet deadlines while providing excellent professional service to SFSU community.

  • Ability to establish & maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse students, faculty, staff, A.S. Board Members, campus vendors and off-campus contractors.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information.

  • Ability to lift over 25 lbs.

  • Ability to stand for 4 hr shifts.
