Position Summary

Are you a highly motivated Master’s or PhD student with a passion for acoustics and aviation innovation? Join us for a thesis internship focused on improving cabin acoustic performance in VIP aircraft. The aim of this internship is to investigate aircraft cabin noise sources, assess transmission paths, and develop lightweight soundproofing concepts to enhance passenger comfort. You will combine analytical work, simulation, and experimental evaluation to better understand real-world acoustic behavior and identify practical improvement solutions. Working in a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment, you will apply signal processing and control theory to address real-world acoustic challenges in aircraft interiors. This internship offers the unique opportunity to contribute to a high-impact project in collaboration with your university.

Your Role

Literature & Research Review:

  • Review typical noise sources and transmission paths in aircraft cabins (e.g. engines, airflow, structure-borne noise).
  • Overview of current soundproofing and acoustic treatment approaches.
  • Study lightweight acoustic materials and insulation strategies.
  • Identify key challenges and opportunities for improving cabin noise performance.

Methodology:

  • Characterize the cabin acoustic environment using measurements and/or validated models.
  • Identify dominant noise contributors and relevant frequency ranges.
  • Propose and develop concepts for lightweight soundproofing or noise reduction.
  • Define methods for evaluating acoustic performance improvements.

Simulation & Testing:

  • Analyze noise reduction potential and effectiveness of proposed solutions.
  • Assess feasibility in terms of weight, integration, and certification constraints.
  • Provide recommendations for improving cabin acoustic performance.
  • Document findings and present results in a clear and structured manner.

Analysis & Results:

  • Simulate acoustic behavior and assess potential improvements from proposed solutions.
  • Support ground-based and/or flight test measurements to capture real noise data.
  • Investigate the influence of operational conditions on cabin noise (e.g. flight phase, passenger configuration).
  • Validate concepts through experimental or semi-empirical approaches.

Softwares & Tools:

  • Python - data processing and visualization.
  • Measurement equipment - microphones, sensors, DAQ systems.
  • Acoustic simulation or analysis tools.

Your Profile

  • Enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in Electrical Engineering, Acoustics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong background in signal processing and control systems.
  • Practical experience with simulation tools and measurement systems.
  • Independent, analytical thinker with a hands-on mindset.
  • Fluent in English; German is a plus.

What we offer you

  • A structured, hands-on internship experience in the aviation environment.
  • Mentorship from experienced engineers and exposure to cutting-edge engineering tool who will guide and support your development.
  • The chance to contribute to meaningful, real-world projects.
  • Valuable work experience in an international company.
  • Be part of a collaborative, multi-cultural team that values innovation and excellence.

If you are interested in a multicultural, challenging and innovative working environment and your profile matches our requirements, we are looking forward to receiving your online application in English.
