About the Role

Job Description:

    The University of Pikeville in Pikeville, Kentucky is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Assistant for the Family and New Student Connections Department. This position provides direct support for Family and New Student Connections initiatives and plays an important role in creating a welcoming, engaging, and supportive experience for new students and their families.


    Responsibilities:

    • Assist with planning, organizing, and hosting a variety of events and programming for families and incoming students including GROWL, UPIKE FIRST Week, Family Weekend, and UPIKE Family Road Show.
    • Assist with data entry.
    • Assist with annual communication and social media plan for Family Connections and UPIKE FIRST.
    • Maintain family contact information within The UPIKE Family Experience communication portal.
    • Work with the director to include names of prospective families provided by Admissions in The UPIKE Family Experience communication portal.
    • Perform basic administrative duties, such as answering/directing calls, shredding documents, collecting/delivering mail, etc.
    • Work occasional nights and weekends.
    • Complete projects as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.


    Qualifications - Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Be enrolled full-time in a master’s degree program at UPIKE and eligible for participation in the Graduate Assistant program (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better preferred).
    • Must have excellent customer service and communication skills.
    • Must have excellent writing skills, critical thinking skills, and be self-directed.
    • Must have experience working with office equipment, e.g., computer, copiers, scanner, multiline office phone.
    • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word.
    • Must be familiar with conducting research.
    • Must understand the importance of keeping all information confidential.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
    • Ability to effectively and creatively resolve student issues in a timely manner.
    • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 25 lbs. 


    **Graduate Assistants receive tuition waivers of up to 6 hours of classes per semester, housing & a meal plan.  However, if the GA does not reside on campus, then he/she will receive a monthly stipend in lieu of room & board. The meal plan covers the actual number of weeks that classes are in session during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.


    **This position requires a two-year commitment.
