About The Company
The Cape Eleuthera Institute is a world-class research and education facility that works to enhance conservation initiatives and economic prosperity at local, regional, and global scales through research, education, and outreach. CEI was founded in 2006 to administer The Island School’s (http://www.islandschool.org/) research program with study areas related to tropical ecology, marine biology, and sustainability. Research at CEI addresses several issues relevant to The Bahamas and other small islands, including waste systems, food security and renewable energy production. Our innovative campus models “green” technologies that promote energy independence and systems that transform waste into resources including the largest solar array in The Bahamas as well as the nation's first Bio-Digester. We also host visiting educational programs and field courses for students from Pre-K to PhD. Through collaboration and partnerships with university scientists, conservation organizations, NGO's and government officials, CEI contributes to national dialogue and policy-making efforts. CEI communicates research in order to inform marine and terrestrial resource management policies and encourage sustainable development initiatives in The Bahamas and similar coastal communities around the world.
About the Role

Wellness & Expeditions Fellow

2026 - 2027

The Island School, a not-for-profit organization based in Eleuthera, The Bahamas, was founded in 1999 to create and support transformational educational experiences with the mission of leadership effecting change. The diverse CEIS educational initiatives, including the Island School Semester and Summer Term, Deep Creek Middle School, the Elementary Learning Center, and Community Outreach, deliver unique education in partnership with the authentic and meaningful work our organization undertakes in research, sustainable development and innovation at the Cape Eleuthera Institute

The Big “WE”

The Island School operates as a close-knit, mission-driven, island-based educational community. Collaboration, flexibility, and shared responsibility are central to our work with students and to life on campus. Staff and educators work closely across programs, age groups, and departments, supporting students through interdisciplinary learning, shared supervision, and community events.

Fellows are supported by experienced staff and are encouraged to grow into this collaborative culture with guidance, mentorship, and clear communication. This community-based approach is a defining feature of employment at The Island School and an essential part of our educational mission.

Program Purpose

The Fellowship Program is an immersive, mentored opportunity for emerging professionals to contribute to a progressive educational model while building the skills, experience, and relationships that will shape the next stage of their careers. Fellows live and work on campus, participate in the daily life of the community, and gradually take on increasing responsibility throughout their time in the role.

The Wellness & Expeditions Fellow supports the daily operations of the Wellness Center, serves in emergency response capacities, participates in our on-call system, maintains and teaches proper use of our expedition gear, and champions efforts to educate and support needs across the organization utilizing your unique skill set. This position is ideal for an individual seeking hands-on experience and learning in a clinical, community-based, and remote environment. Fellows work alongside our lead staff, gradually building responsibility throughout their time in the role. This is an excellent opportunity for someone exploring careers and developing skills in emergency medicine, wilderness medicine, nursing, or experiential education.
