Description
Mechanical Dynamics & Analysis, LLC (MD&A), a world-class supplier of power generation maintenance services, repairs, and parts, is seeking a Turbine Remote Monitoring Intern to support its Remote Monitoring and Diagnostics program based in Fort Collins, Colorado. This internship is intended for engineering students interested in applying classroom fundamentals to real operating data from gas and combined cycle power plants.
The role provides hands-on exposure to gas turbine and steam turbine performance, diagnostics, and reliability analysis through real-world industrial data. Interns work closely with experienced engineers and contribute directly to ongoing R&D and customer-facing projects during the summer internship period.
Duties & Responsibilities
Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist with development of automation and visualization tools used in equipment diagnostics and reliability analysis
- Analyze operational data from gas turbines and steam turbines to evaluate performance, operating behavior, and developing issues
- Support combustion dynamics monitoring and Brayton cycle performance analysis for gas turbines
- Assist with steam turbine efficiency and performance calculations using Rankine cycle principles
- Apply thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and dynamic systems concepts to real-world turbine data
- Work under the guidance of the R&D Manager and collaborate with experienced engineers on diagnostic and reliability studies
Requirements
- Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- One to three semesters remaining prior to graduation at the start of the internship
- Minimum 3.0 GPA (or equivalent)
- Ability to work full-time during the summer internship period
- Ability to work onsite at the Fort Collins, Colorado office
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework or project experience in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
- Familiarity with modeling and control of dynamic systems
- Experience or interest in programming for engineering analysis (Python, VB/VB.NET, C, or similar)
- Interest in diagnosing mechanical, thermodynamic, or performance-related issues in rotating equipment
- Exposure to data analysis, statistical methods, or interest in machine-learning applications for engineering diagnostics
