We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Engineering Intern to support the engineering team at Cigarette Racing for our Summer Internship program. This temporary internship is designed to provide hands-on technical experience in a high-performance marine manufacturing environment.


The Engineering Intern will assist with drafting, documentation, testing, and production support activities, gaining exposure to real-world engineering processes, materials, and systems used in high-performance vessels. This role is ideal for students pursuing a degree in engineering who are looking to develop practical, shop-floor and design experience.


*This temporary position is intended exclusively for students who are required to complete an internship as part of their academic program. Applicants must be able to receive course credit for the internship through their educational institution. Proof of enrollment and the institution’s internship credit requirements may be requested.

Requirements

Technical & Drafting Support

• Assist in creating and updating 2D/3D CAD models and engineering drawings (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).

• Support updates to templates, layouts, and technical documentation.

• Help maintain engineering files, revision control, and document organization within PLM/PDM systems.


Production & Shop Floor Support

• Work alongside production teams (lamination, assembly, electrical, mechanical) to observe and support implementation of engineering designs.

• Assist in identifying and documenting production issues related to design or installation.

• Help track and verify dimensions, tolerances, and material usage on the shop floor.


Testing & Data Collection

• Support sea trials, system testing, and inspections by collecting and recording performance data.

• Assist in documenting test results, photos, and observations for engineering review.

• Help organize and compile reports for ongoing projects.


Materials & Process Exposure

• Assist in evaluating fiberglass and composite materials, including lamination and infusion processes.

• Observe and support engineering involvement in tooling, molds, and manufacturing methods.


General Engineering Support

• Assist with basic calculations, data entry, and spreadsheet tracking (Excel).

• Support continuous improvement initiatives by documenting workflows and identifying opportunities for efficiency.

• Perform other technical support tasks as assigned by the engineering team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

• Prior internship, coursework, or project experience in engineering or manufacturing is a plus.

• Must be able to receive academic credit if required by the institution (if applicable).


TECHNICAL SKILLS:

• Basic knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).

• Familiarity with engineering drawings and basic drafting principles.

• Basic understanding of (preferred, but not required):

   o Mechanical systems and components

   o Manufacturing or fabrication processes

   o Materials (composites experience is a plus)

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

• Good written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to walk the production floor and access vessels and work areas

• Ability to lift up to 25lbs occasionally

• Ability to sit, stand, bend, and move for extended periods as needed


Employment Type: Full-Time (hourly/non-exempt), Temporary

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm


This role is based in a boat manufacturing or repair facility. The work environment may involve exposure to chemicals and fumes, requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
