Job Description

Job Summary: 

 

Work with the ATS Systems Design team to develop, design, and execute automated equipment by collaborating with multiple engineering disciplines to develop automation concepts. Take responsibility for equipment requirements and testing to meet customers’ process needs for automated systems or prototypes.

 

Job Responsibilities: 

 

  • Assist in quote preparation and ensure the automated system concept meets process requirements.
  • Lead or assist in defining and refining process and equipment requirements and specifications, and development of automation concepts.
  • Support systems engineering analysis and design of all aspects of a machine, such as but not limited to system accuracy, cycle-time, vibration, thermal, metrology/instrumentation, kinematics.
  • Create and document specifications such as: machine design and process requirements specifications, and test plans for process characterization and machine acceptance.
  • Lead or support design reviews with customers, vendors, and internal design groups
  • Review mechanical, electrical and software design concepts as needed to ensure process requirements are met.
  • Plan and support coordination of project activities with suppliers of process critical third-party equipment, including conducting acceptance tests and approval.
  • Identify and investigate potentially high-risk elements of the system.
  • Create simulation models and conduct experiments on high-risk system elements to validate design assumptions.
  • Work with the project team and Systems Design team to solve design-related problems.
  • Participate in the integration of processes for which they have design responsibilities.
  • Conduct and assess machine performance tests of prototype or proof-of-concept machines.

 

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in 2nd year or higher of a Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, Engineering Physics, Engineering Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or Automation Engineering degree at an accredited university

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong understanding of kinematics and mechanical design
  • Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Minitab (SolidWorks basics is an asset)
  • Statistical analysis (regression, anomaly detection, gage studies)
  • Design of experiments, Failure Mode Effect and Analysis
  • Troubleshooting and diagnostics (hand on experience is an asset)
  • Communication and presentation
