- Supervisor: Director, Applications Engineering
- Duration: 4 or 8 months (September – December or April)
- Location: Cambridge, ON (Onsite)
- Range: $20.44 – 30.43

Job Description
Job Summary:
A Mechanical Designer Co-op in the Applications Department is responsible for developing custom automated assembly concepts to support proposals for the Life Sciences industry meeting customer requirements. The role requires a highly motivated individual with exceptional mechanical engineering skills including SolidWorks (or equivalent) design experience, and a general business aptitude to support our sales teams.
Job Responsibilities:
- Reviewing and understanding customer's technical requirements
- Creating conceptual designs in SolidWorks for automation solutions to support proposal development
- Enhancing concepts for customer presentations (for example, rendering of solid models)
- Performing engineering calculations to verify concepts (for example; cycle times, kinematic and dynamic motion analysis, accuracy, FEA, CFD, etc.)
- Presenting concepts quickly and efficiently for internal reviews and approvals
- Developing/maintaining a SolidWorks library for standard solution blocks
- If required, creating documentation and/or training tools to support continuous improvement activities
- Working with teams and independently to complete all specific tasks with minimal supervision
Education:
- Working towards a post-secondary degree, diploma or equivalent, specializing in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering
- 2nd year or above co-op student
Required Skills/Experience:
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD/DraftSight
- Must have strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong MS Excel skills are an asset
- Motivated, innovative, and creative individual

- Report defect in any equipment or protective device
- Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks
- Attend all required health, safety and environmental training
- Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor
- Assist in investigating accidents/incidents
- Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct
