Job Description
Organization & Team Overview
Comcast’s Corporate Tax department supports one of the world’s largest media and technology companies by managing the company’s federal, state, local, and international tax obligations. The team partners closely with Finance, Accounting, Legal, and the operating businesses to ensure compliance, defend tax positions before taxing authorities, and support strategic initiatives across Comcast’s diverse portfolio of brands.
Within Corporate Tax, the State and Local Tax (“SALT”) Audit team manages income, franchise, sales and use, gross receipts, and other state and local tax audits across the United States. The team gathers and analyzes data, prepares supporting documentation, develops audit defense strategies, and serves as Comcast’s primary point of contact with state and local taxing authorities throughout the audit lifecycle. Co-ops on the team work side-by-side with experienced tax professionals who bring deep technical expertise and a collaborative approach to mentoring students.
Role Description
In this role, you will help defend Comcast’s tax filings across hundreds of state and local jurisdictions, each with its own rules, procedures, and quirks. You will work with large data sets, reconcile information across multiple source systems (general ledger, billing, payroll, etc.), and translate raw transactional data into clear, audit-ready support. You will see how multi-state tax controversy plays out in real time and gain exposure to the substantive technical issues — nexus, apportionment, sourcing, taxability — that shape a Fortune 30 company’s effective state tax rate.
You will be working alongside experienced tax professionals on audits with real financial stakes for Comcast. Success in this role looks like timely, well-organized, and thoroughly supported audit responses; cleaner workpapers and audit files; and process improvements — through Excel automation, data analytics, or workflow streamlining — that the team continues to use long after your co-op ends.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Research information requests from government agencies during the course of tax audits.
- Participates in tax audit plans and strategies.

- Contributes to process improvement through automation and technology implementation.
- Prepare and organize supporting documentation (workpapers, schedules, reconciliations) in response to information document requests (IDRs) from state and local taxing authorities.
- Pull and reconcile data from financial source systems (general ledger, billing, payroll) and tie it back to filed tax returns.
- Track audit deadlines, maintain audit calendars, and assist with status reporting to internal stakeholders.
- Build Excel models and leverage data analytics tools (e.g., Alteryx, Power BI) to streamline recurring audit tasks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners across Tax, Accounting, IT, and the business to gather and validate information.
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Preferred Skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, lookups); exposure to data analytics tools (e.g., Alteryx, Power BI, Tableau) a plus.

- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Coursework in taxation, financial accounting, or auditing preferred.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) a plus.
- Preferred Majors: Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Management
Minimum Qualifications and Eligibility Requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree from Drexel University, with a cooperative learning track.
