IEEE is the world’s largest professional technical organization with over 400,000 members worldwide, and IEEE Spectrum is the organization’s award-winning flagship publication. We are looking for an intern with a background or a strong interest in science and technology, who is interested in explaining technological breakthroughs to a broad, but educated, audience.
The internship is mostly reporting and writing news for the website and the magazine. However, past interns have also been involved in features for special reports, infographics, podcasts, profiles, reviews, and video production. The goal is for the intern to come away having written a number of in-depth news stories suitable for the print magazine. The heart of most such stories is explaining how something quite complicated works. That's our bread-and-butter, and our readers are very demanding on this point. So if you can do it here, you can do it anywhere.
Internships typically run September through December. You’ll work out of our New York City office up to 30 hours per week.
Qualifications - External
Demonstrated interest in science or technology journalism. Bachelors degree in engineering, computer science, or physical sciences preferred.
