About the Role

Description

The Graduate Pharmacy Intern is a recent PharmD graduate actively pursuing pharmacist licensure. Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, this role supports clinical and operational pharmacy services to optimize medication use and patient outcomes. The intern may perform pharmacist-level functions as permitted by state law but may not independently verify prescriptions or make final clinical decisions.

  

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the safe, effective, and cost-efficient management of medications across the continuum of care. 
  • Review and evaluate medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Provide patient counseling on medication use, adherence, and side effects under pharmacist supervision. 
  • Support dispensing, monitoring, and communication of medication-related needs. 
  • Collaborate with pharmacists, providers, nursing, pharmacy technicians, and other medical staff to optimize patient care outcomes. 
  • Provide drug information and assist with clinical decision support. 
  • Identify and escalate medication-related problems and assist in developing care plans/solutions to medication-related problems.
  • Support oversight of pharmacy technicians as directed. 
  • Maintain compliance with all policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and professional standards. 
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental goals. 
  • Maintain professionalism and a patient-centered approach in all interactions. 
  • Actively prepare for and obtain pharmacist licensure within established timelines
  • Provide patient care services as needed, to include but not limited to: immunizations, medication therapy management, disease state consultations, adherence based patient calls

Supervision

  • Reports to the Pharmacist-in-Charge (or designee). 
  • Works under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

Requirements

    

Qualifications Required:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited school of pharmacy. 
  • Active Intern licensure in the State of Missouri. 
  • Active pursuit of pharmacist licensure (e.g., NAPLEX/MPJE scheduled/planned). 
  • Strong clinical knowledge and communication skills. 
  • Immunization certification 
  • Interested in ambulatory care, community health, or specialty pharmacy. 

  

Preferred:

  • Prior pharmacy intern experience. 
  • Experience with EHR/pharmacy systems. 
  • 340B, FQHC experience
  • Specialty experience
