About The Company
At Transporeon, a Trimble company, our mission is to bring transportation in sync with the world. We power the largest global freight network of more than 1,400 shippers and retailers and more than 150,000 carriers and logistics service providers. Every day they execute more than 110,000 transports on our platform and book more than 100,00 dock appointments for loading and unloading. In the course of one year, roughly €55bn in freight is being processed on our platform. Our leading transportation management platform connects all actors along the supply chain. It facilitates collaboration between the different parties, helps to automate manual processes and provides valuable real-time insights. The modular Application Hubs solve specific logistics challenges and range from freight sourcing over transport execution and dock and yard management to freight audit and payment. Data hubs provide insights into logistics operations, market developments and carbon emissions, next to ensuring transparency in the supply chain through visibility. Our platform works across all geographies and all modes of transportation, empowering logistics teams to move, manage and monitor freight. Transporeon is headquartered in Ulm, Germany, and maintains 18 offices around the globe with over 1,400 employees across 27 countries. For more information, visit: www.transporeon.com
About the Role

Are you a student passionate about the next generation of UI utilizing Mixed Reality, AI Vision, and Natural Language Voice Interaction? Join our CTCT team this summer to develop novel interaction methods that combine AI and mixed reality to transform how operators create designs in the field and control excavators, moving from digital simulations to real-world impact in the cab of a machine.

What Makes This Role Great:

This role offers the rare opportunity to research and build prototypes that merge computer vision and AI natural language with AR/VR wearables in a real-world industrial setting. You will move from designing concepts in a simulator to testing your code in-cab on an active construction site, directly seeing how your software assists operators in visualizing virtual designs and bucket positions in real-time.

Key Exciting Responsibilities

  • Research and design novel HMI/HCI prototypes using computer vision and neural networks to analyze complex construction environments.

  •  Develop immersive mixed reality experiences for excavator operators, displaying virtual designs through AR or VR wearables.

  • Build and test software prototypes initially in high-fidelity simulators before transitioning to live in-cab testing on site.

  • Rapidly iterate and refine interaction concepts based on direct user feedback and performance analysis.

  • Collaborate with senior research engineers to down-select the most impactful technological concepts for global earthmoving products.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related field.

  • Solid understanding of software developed for mixed reality or 3D visualization, and a passion to explore new UI paradigms.

  • Practical software development experience, specifically coding in Unity, Godot, Python, C# or similar languages / platforms.

  • Experience in using Generative AI tools to accelerate software development and enable rapid iteration on prototypes..

  •  Strong curiosity and a collaborative working style with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced R&D environment.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in New Zealand.

Bonus Points For

  • Familiarity with AR/VR hardware integration and user testing methodologies.

  • Interest in heavy machinery or the application of gaming technology to industrial workflows.
