Why this role matters

Harry Hunter Recovery Centre provides a safe, structured and therapeutic environment for people seeking recovery from alcohol and other drug dependence. The Apprentice Cook plays an important role in supporting the daily operations of the kitchen, ensuring participants receive nutritious, high-quality meals that contribute to their wellbeing and recovery.

About the role

This apprenticeship is structured to support learning and skill development, and the 15.2 hours per week is sufficient to meet the requirements of the programme. As part of the apprenticeship programme, the successful applicant will be required to undertake a TAFE course of training and attend college one day per week.

Working under the supervision of the Chef, the Apprentice Cook assists with all aspects of food preparation and production in line with the apprenticeship programme. This includes preparing meals to a high standard, maintaining kitchen hygiene, following food safety regulations, and supporting the smooth running of daily kitchen operations. The role also contributes to kitchen documentation, equipment maintenance checks, and compliance activities as required.

This fixed term part-time position within the Harry Hunter Recovery Centre team, reporting to the Chef. Pay is in accordance with a SCHADS Level 1.

How you will make an impact

  • Assist with preparing and cooking meals to meet participant needs

  • Maintain a clean, safe and hygienic kitchen environment

  • Follow all relevant food safety, WHS and regulatory requirements

  • Support menu development and catering for special functions when required

  • Complete kitchen documentation and assist with audits and compliance tasks

  • Enrolment in a Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) as part of an apprenticeship programme
