Description
As an Avionics Engineer Intern at Northrop Grumman Australia (NGA), you’ll gain hands‑on exposure supporting the KC‑30A aircraft, a critical capability for the Royal Australian Air Force. You’ll work alongside experienced avionics engineers, learn how complex aircraft systems are supported, and see how engineering contributes directly to Australia’s Defence mission.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll join a welcoming and supportive engineering team, where you’ll be guided and mentored while you:
Assist with avionics engineering activities supporting aircraft sustainment and operations
Support the analysis and documentation of avionics systems and technical data
Help with troubleshooting, investigations, and problem‑solving activities
Learn how avionics systems are supported within a regulated, safety‑critical aviation environment
Work with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, systems, logistics, and Defence stakeholders
Gain exposure to Defence aviation standards, processes, and governance
This 12 week internship is designed to help you learn by doing, build technical confidence, and develop practical skills that complement your studies. This role is based at Springfield Lakes base in Brisbane, Queensland.
Eligibility requirements:
We’re looking for curious, motivated students who are keen to learn:
Currently studying a Bachelor of Avionics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
Interested in aircraft systems, avionics, and Defence aviation
Curious, motivated, and not afraid to ask questions
Strong attention to detail with an interest in technical problem‑solving
Good communication skills and a team‑focused mindset
Australian citizenship (required to work on Defence programs)
Ability to work full-time over the allocated internship period
