Looking for an internship where you can make a genuine impact while gaining realworld experience?

As an Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Intern at Northrop Grumman Australia (NGA), you’ll support our teams in maintaining safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplaces. This is a great opportunity to apply what you’re learning at university, gain exposure to bestpractice safety systems, and understand how EHS supports complex Defence and technology programs.

You’ll work alongside experienced EHS professionals in a supportive environment that values learning, curiosity, and continuous improvement.

What you’ll be doing

With guidance and mentoring throughout your internship, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Support EHS initiatives and daytoday safety activities across the business

  • Assist with health, safety and environmental reporting and documentation

  • Help with risk assessments, audits, and inspections

  • Support incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions

  • Learn about WHS legislation, environmental compliance, and safety management systems

  • Work with teams across operations, programs, and facilities to promote a strong safety culture

This 12 week internship is designed to help you build practical skills and confidence in a real workplace setting.  This role can be based at either our Amberley base in Queensland or the Edinburgh base in South Australia.

Eligibility requirements:

We’re looking for enthusiastic students who are keen to learn and contribute:

  • Currently studying a degree in Work Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Health, Occupational Health & Safety, Sustainability, or a related discipline

  • Interested in workplace safety, environmental management, or risk

  • Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn

  • Comfortable working with documentation, data, and reports

  • Good communication skills and a proactive, teamfocused attitude

  • Australian citizenship (required for some work environments)

  • Ability to work full-time over the allocated internship period

If you’re passionate about health, safety and the environment and want to start your career with purpose, we’d love to hear from you. You can submit your application, along with your Resume, Cover Letter and Academic Transcripts on our website. Due to our secure systems, we are unable to accept resumes and other documentation via email.

The Recruitment Process

  • Apply on our website with the required documents. A cover letter is crucial as we want to know, “why us?”

  • You will receive an email with a survey and some more information about Northrop Grumman, which we hope you complete as soon as possible.

  • You will receive a call or email from one of our friendly recruitment team to talk through your application. From here, our recruitment team will organise for you to attend one of our assessment centres or an interview.

  • A recruitment representative or your hiring manager will give you a call to let you know if you are successful or unsuccessful.

  • If you are successful, a People and Culture representative will then reach out to you to discuss your onboarding and provide a warm welcome to Northrop Grumman!

Please note that our recruitment process can be lengthy due to the strong security checks required which allow our Interns to get close to our secure technology. Therefore, any candidates MUST have an Australian Citizenship to apply.
