Job Title: Cell Process Development Placement (12-month)

Reports to Senior Process Engineer II

Hours: Full-time (Weekend/out of hours in some circumstances)

Role Summary

Autolus is offering a 12-month student placement at its hub in White City. The student will work in Cell Process Development (CPD) which sits within our Process Development (PD) division and will   gain experience in the development and characterisation of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell manufacturing processes and products.

The candidate will be situated within the CPD team for the full placement and will gain experience of several key cell processing and analytical techniques. This will include laboratory support and learning of flow cytometry and other analytical techniques, maintenance and operation of various laboratory equipment including semi-automated bioreactors, flow cytometers, cell separation equipment etc in addition to aseptic cell handling and media preparation. There will also be an   opportunity for the candidate to contribute to data capture and data analysis, communication and discussion within the project teams.

Over the 12-month period the candidate will have the opportunity to work cross functionally with various R&D and PD departments to gain insight into the life cycle of a CAR from research to manufacturing patient material. The candidate will also gain understanding of working with production and QC/QA departments and how clinical CAR T cell products are manufactured and released for patient infusion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support of projects within the Cell-PD team including (but not limited to):

    • Flow cytometry and other analytical techniques

    • Assisting in the maintenance of laboratory equipment (including semi-automated bioreactors, flow cytometers, cell separation equipment etc) and reagent supplies

    • Aseptic cell handling

    • Media preparation

  • Any other duties as required following consultation with the post holder

  • The post-holder will be responsible for adhering to all health and safety guidance, provided by the Company

This is an evolving role, and the above list of responsibilities is not exhaustive; the postholder may be requested to perform additional duties, as might reasonably be required. This job description will be reviewed during the 3-month probation review process.

Experience

  • Good understanding of cellular biology, molecular biology and aseptic cell culture techniques is required although further training will be given.

Qualifications

  • Good general standard of education with a minimum of 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above including English and Maths.
  • Currently studying for BSc in Immunology/Biochemistry or related discipline

  • Studying for BSc in Immunology/Biochemistry or related discipline (E)
