About the Role


Title: Staff Training and Development Officer (Canada Summer Jobs)
Type: Age 15-30 years old (this is a requirement of the Canada Summer Jobs Program)
Reports To: Education Lead
Location: Mississauga, ON
Term: There are 2 (two) open positions for this role. The anticipated term will be from June 16 - August 11.
Placement: 8 weeks, 280 hours total

About the job

Reporting to the Education Lead, the Staff Training and Development Officer is responsible for providing support in the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of professional Learning programs at SHIP. Their goal is to assist in Learning Management System (LMS) administration and create an environment of professional growth to equip staff with the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve operational goals and strategic direction.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Help develop interactive presentations and training materials (ie. guides, videos, webinars, etc.)
  • Contribute to the design, delivery, and evaluation of training programs in key focus areas, ie. Mental Health, First Aid/CPR, Housing First, etc.
  • Research best practices in adult learning and instructional design.
  • Produce and assist with e-learning content creation, LMS administration and workshop coordination.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, committees, instructional designers, and subject matter experts over various channels (ie. In-person, MS Teams, etc.)
  • Assist in analyzing feedback and learning metrics to improve programs.
  • Support onboarding and staff development initiatives.
  • Understand and be able to integrate a philosophy of person-centred care 
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to quality care and service delivery based on SHIP’s Vision, Mission and Values
  • Ensure appropriate records are kept and ensure statistical information is maintained as per agency standards
  • Complete other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing post-secondary education in Instructional Design, Education, HR, Communications, or equivalent.
  • Strong verbal/written communication, organization, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with instructional design principles or e-learning tools is an asset
  • Knowledge of learning and development trends and best practices
  • Experience and sensitivity in interacting with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity
  • Demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision in a team environment
  • Proficient in MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Day shifts (Monday – Friday 9am-4:30pm, 35 hours per week)
  • Able to work well with internal and external clients
  • Able to drive, walk (site locations) regularly and travel to community sites for staff support as required
  • Able to sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to answer and communicate telephone calls and general computer use
  • Computer screen use (multiple screens if applicable) for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to lift up to 20lbs (product, documents, etc.)
