About the Role

POSITION TITLE: Education Intern

REPORTS TO: Manager of Education Operations

SUPERVISES: NA

 

EXEMPT OR NON-EXEMPT: Unpaid Internship

 

LOCATION ON-SITE, REMOTE, OR HYBRID: On-Site 

 

PERCENTAGE OF FULL TIME: 100%

 

WORKER CATEGORY – PERMANENT/SEASONAL/TEMPORARY: Seasonal

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with the creation, development, and implementation of educational programing for guest programs (eco-boat tours, kayak tours, classroom programs, community outreach, and special events). 

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Assist with the creation of educational programming from concept, objectives, lesson plan to implementation.
  • Safely and effectively participate in educational programming and tours.
  • Utilize different public speaking techniques and methodologies to a wide and diverse audience in a multitude of settings.
  • Assist with wild dolphin fin identification during eco-boat tours to educate guests on best practices and environmental stewardship of marine life.
  • Utilize scientific data from fish trawls conducted during eco-boat tours for incorporation into conservation programming.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Complete projects as assigned.
  • Complete a capstone project.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates should be pursing a degree in Education, Marine Science, Biology, Environmental Science, or other related field
  • Prior camp experience a plus
  • Prior child care experience a plus
  • Ability to pass a national background, drug and/or federal fingerprint

TIME REQUIREMENTS: Time requirements are subject to the length of the program equivalent to one college semester. Minimum requirements are working 40hrs per week.

  • Hours requirements total 500 hours over the season for a 3-month program, 
  • 600 for a 4-month program, 
  • 800 for a 5-month program, 
  • 950 for a 6-month program. 

These hours are required to build on prior learning and increase knowledge of the particular field.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Climb stairs - Daily
  • Lift 50 lbs.- Frequently
  • Pull nets - Frequently
  • Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions (hot, humid, cold, rain) without the benefit of air Conditioning, shade or other cover - Frequently
