About the Role

Summer Claims Intern

Claims Department Internship | Full-Time Seasonal

Position Summary

The Summer Claims Intern will support the Claims Department through a combination of customer service, administrative support, and claims intake responsibilities. This role offers hands-on exposure to insurance claims operations and provides cross-training opportunities across multiple functions within the department. This position is located in our Omaha, NE office.  Monday - Friday 9:00 am  to 6:00pm (CT).  

The intern will assist with capturing first notice of loss information, creating new claim records, handling incoming calls, maintaining claim documentation, supporting compliance-related tasks, and providing administrative assistance to the claims team. The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, strong communication and listening skills, professionalism, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

This internship is designed to provide meaningful experience in claims operations, customer service, and insurance administration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Claims & Customer Service Support

  • Process first notice of loss reports received through phone and non-phone reporting channels in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Create and update claim records within internal claim systems.
  • Assist with incoming calls and direct inquiries appropriately across the organization.
  • Provide excellent customer service while handling routine claims inquiries.
  • Utilize internal claims and expert systems to support daily operations.
  • Liaise with internal departments, vendors, policyholders, and external clients to clarify information and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Follow company procedures to ensure compliance with risk management and regulatory policies.
  • Escalate complex inquiries to appropriate personnel when necessary.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Read, sort, and route incoming mail and claim-related correspondence.
  • Assist with claim file document requests, vendor payments, stop payments, CLUE reports, arbitration matters, and regulatory responses.
  • Organize, maintain, and update electronic and physical filing systems.
  • Prepare outgoing correspondence, emails, and other communications.
  • Conduct research and compile reports, spreadsheets, and departmental tracking documents.
  • Support meeting coordination, scheduling, agendas, and documentation.
  • Maintain supplies and assist with departmental organization and workflow.
  • Assist with customer service surveys and additional departmental projects as assigned.
  • Cross-train in various administrative and operational functions to provide resource support across the Claims Department.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Strong listening and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and general computer systems.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Interest in insurance, claims, business administration, customer service, or related fields.
  • Experience in customer service, office administration, or call center environments is a plus.
