Sample Supports provides person-centered services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), helping people build independence, meaningful relationships, and fulfilling lives within their communities. Position Overview

Sample Supports is seeking motivated and compassionate Bachelor Level Interns to join our Behavior and Supported Living Services (SLS) programs. This internship offers hands-on experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities while developing professional skills in behavioral health, human services, mentorship, and community-based care.

This position is ideal for students pursuing degrees in psychology, social work, human services, behavioral health, special education, counseling, or related fields who are interested in gaining real-world experience in direct support services and behavioral intervention.

Interns work under supervision while providing mentorship, line staffing, behavioral support implementation, and person-centered services in both community and home settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support and mentorship to individuals receiving services
  • Support implementation of behavioral support plans under supervision
  • Assist individuals with independent living skills, communication, emotional regulation, and community engagement
  • Help individuals participate in recreational, educational, vocational, and community activities
  • Model and reinforce coping skills, communication strategies, and positive behavioral supports
  • Observe and report behavioral trends, concerns, and progress
  • Complete daily documentation and service notes in compliance with agency standards
  • Attend supervision meetings, trainings, and team meetings
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and healthy boundaries
  • Support crisis response and safety procedures when necessary
  • Advocate for individuals receiving services and promote person-centered care



Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in:
    • Psychology
    • Social Work
    • Human Services
    • Behavioral Health
    • Special Education
    • Counseling
    • Or a related field
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Interest in working with individuals with IDD
  • Ability to receive feedback and participate in supervision
  • Commitment to professionalism and person-centered support



Additional Requirements

  • Background check clearance
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (if applicable)
  • CPR/First Aid certification (may be completed during internship)
  • Mandatory Reporter training (may be completed during internship)
  • RBT certification preferred but not required
