Compensation
In years when grant or program funding is available, interns may be compensated at a rate of $19.57 to $22.30 per hour for hours completed as part of the field placement. Compensation is not guaranteed and is contingent upon funding availability.
Position Overview
The MSW Clinical Intern will complete a 500-hour field placement focused on developing clinical skills within a trauma-informed, survivor-centered advocacy setting. This placement provides hands-on experience working with individuals and groups impacted by domestic violence, sexual violence, and related forms of trauma.
Interns will receive supervision from a licensed clinical professional and gain experience in individual therapy, group facilitation, community engagement, and training delivery.

Clinical Services (Individual Therapy)
- Maintain an active caseload of approximately 10–15 clients, based on experience and program needs
- Provide individual, trauma-informed therapy to clients under supervision
- Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and contribute to treatment planning
- Develop, write, and regularly review individualized treatment plans
- Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation in accordance with agency and ethical standards
- Apply evidence-based and culturally responsive therapeutic approaches
- Co-facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups for survivors
- Assist in curriculum development and adaptation for diverse populations
- Support group intake, engagement, and evaluation processes
- Collaborate with community partners to support coordinated care for clients
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case consultations
- Assist in outreach efforts to strengthen relationships with local organizations
- Support the development and delivery of community trainings on topics such as domestic violence, trauma, and advocacy
- Assist in preparing training materials and presentations
- Participate in public education and awareness initiatives
- Engage in ongoing practice evaluation, including self-reflection and incorporation of supervisory feedback
- Participate in outcome tracking and program evaluation efforts when applicable
- Demonstrate growth in clinical skills, ethical decision-making, and professional identity
Supervision & Support
- Weekly individual supervision with a licensed clinical social worker
- Opportunities for group supervision and team consultation
- Ongoing feedback and evaluation aligned with MSW program requirements
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Master of Social Work (MSW) program
- Foundation-level coursework in clinical practice preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice and working with survivors of violence
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals impacted by trauma, domestic violence, or related issues
- Interest in community-based practice and advocacy
- Experience or interest in facilitating groups or training
Physical & Emotional Demands
- Ability to engage in emotionally intensive work with survivors of trauma
- Capacity to maintain professional boundaries and utilize supervision effectively
- Ability to manage documentation and administrative responsibilities
