About the Role

Lean Enterprise Intern

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Lean Manufacturing Intern to join our laboratory team. The perfect candidate will support continuous improvement initiatives across the Lab and supporting departments. This role will focus on analyzing testing processes and assisting with the implementation of Lean principles to improve efficiency, organization, and productivity.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • conducting process time studies and motion studies toidentifyinefficiencies,
  • supporting the implementation of 5S in production areas
  • documentingand standardizingtheimproved workflows
  • assistinestablishinga Leanculture across the organization, including meeting structures, metrics, and reporting processes.

Working closely with operations and science teams, the intern will help drive elements of the site's Lean objectives, contributing to projects that improve throughput, reduce waste, and strengthen operational discipline.

This role is ideal for a student pursuing Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field with an interest in Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Process time studies
  • Motion studies
  • Implementing 5S in production areas
  • Creating standard work (SOP’s)
  • Documenting improved workflows 
  • Collaborating with technicians, scienceteamand others.
  • Create and/or improve visual communication

Education & Experience

  • Education Level Required:PursuingBachelor's / Master's
  • Majors: Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management
  • Relevant coursework or extracurricular experience in Lean Manufacturing principles is a plus.
  • Open to currently enrolled students or those who have graduated within one year of the internship start date.

Safety Requirements 

  • OSHA laws require the use of the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing work duties that have the potential of risk to your health or safety. At POLARIS Laboratories, when going through the Laboratory it is required that you wear eye protection.
  • Team members will be trained in the proper use and care of assigned PPE. POLARIS Laboratories provides the required PPE. It is your responsibility to report defective,damagedor lost PPE, or equipment that does not fit properly, to yourManager.
  • To ensure safety throughout the facility, all employeesare required tomaintainup to date HAZMAT, OSHA, RCRA, Methylene Chloride, and General Laboratory Safety training as defined within the POLARIS Quality System.
