About the Role

Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast, with offices located throughout Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee.

GMC has an opening for a Transportation Student Intern to support on-going projects in our Brentwood, TN office. The Transportation Student Intern will learn how engineers and planners design and improve roads, sidewalks, bike lanes, intersections, highways, and public transportation systems. This opportunity is designed for high school students who are curious about engineering, city planning, construction, or how transportation systems work.

Students do not need prior experience. The goal is to explore careers, learn workplace skills, and gain exposure to transportation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and assist transportation engineers and planners with daily tasks
  • Learn how traffic studies and roadway designs are created
  • Help organize project files, maps, and reports
  • Attend team meetings and ask questions about projects
  • Learn basic computer programs used in engineering and planning
  • Support field visits to roads, intersections, or construction sites when available
  • Research transportation topics such as traffic safety, bike paths, or public transit
  • Practice communication and teamwork skills in a professional environment
