About the Role
Job Overview

The Fairview Surgical Technologist Learner performs related tasks and responsibilities of a Surgical Technologist while studying toward a Surgical Technologist Degree. Work is guided by the surgical technologist educator and overseen by the operating room supervisor.  The Surgical Technologist Learner is responsible for adhering to all surgical safety standards, policies, procedures, and practice guidelines while promoting teamwork with all members of the health care team. The Surgical Technologist Leaner is expected to complete mandatory rotations with Surgical NAs / NSTs, Sterile Processing techs, Case Cart aides, and Perioperative Circulating RNs. Upon successful completion of the Surgical Technologist Learner program, the expectation is to hire our learners into a Surgical Technologist position at the site you worked as a Surgical Technologist Learner. 

 

Additional Details: Learners work a .3 FTE (24 hours per two-week pay period) at Fairview Ridges Hospital (Burnsville, MN) and must be entering their final collegiate year in their respective program (entering segment 3 for Saint Paul College, entering their final year at Rasmussen & entering Semester 4 for Anoka Tech students). After receiving a Surg Tech Learner offer, the role will pay $25.00/hour.  

 

Upon completion of the Surgical Technologist Learner Program, the expectation is you are hired into a surg tech position at your learner Site. Candidates are expected to pursue a Surgical Technologist position with Fairview and remain in the role for approximately one year after their orientation ends.


 
Required Qualifications 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. 
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technologist Program. Proof of enrollment may be requested. Must maintain full time enrollment and passing grades in coursework. 
  • Must be a second-year student in their respective Surgical Technologist Program. 
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross) within 6 months 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, prior healthcare experience, preferably as a instrument tech, LPN, nursing assistant or other closely related field. 
  • Excellent customer service and communication. 
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment. 

 

About our OR at Ridges: 

  • Our 150-bed community-based hospital currently has 11 OR Rooms, averaging over 7,500 cases a year. 
  • Our OR specializes in areas including: Spine, Ortho, OB-GYN, General, ENT, Plastic, Urology, and Da Vinci. 
  • Our call response time is 30 minutes and it is a weekend
