Job Role Description

The Process Engineer - Associate is expected to apply process engineering skills to:
- Provide technical support to manufacturing or production sites
- Address day-to-day operating issues and implement longer-term improvements
- Execute process monitoring and analysis to sustain and improve assigned plant safety, reliability, and profitability
- Participate in risk management activities
- Support project design and development
- Acquire a strong working knowledge of technology fundamentals for their assigned areas
They are typically individual contributors, working under the guidance of experienced engineers, growing in technical knowledge and in the ability to influence others without formal authority.

Job Role Responsibilities

Support Facility / Site Operations: Provide technical support to operating sites, address day-to-day operating issues, and implement longer-term improvements
- Execute Process Monitoring and Analysis: Conduct process monitoring and analysis to sustain and improve plant safety, reliability, and profitability
- Participate in Risk Management Activities: Engage in risk assessment and management activities
- Acquire Knowledge of Technology Fundamentals: Build a strong foundation in relevant technologies for assigned areas
- Collaboration and Expertise Sharing: Actively collaborate with internal and external technology and manufacturing experts. Participate in applicable technology networks and communities of practice. Bring forward and screen improvement ideas
- Work Presentation and Documentation: Present and document work; grow in understanding of business, technology, manufacturing, and projects; identify opportunities to improve work processes
Additional Responsibilities based on position assignment may include:
Technology Role:
- Process Technology Development and Implementation: Key activities may include new process / product development and scale-up, equipment improvements, process modeling and simulation, interfaces with laboratories and pilot plants, technology risk assessment, and plant trial support
- Project Development Support: Key activities may include development of heat & material balances, process & utility flow diagrams, plot plans, equipment sizing, and safety relief system design
Site-Based Role:
- Improvement Initiatives: Assist in longer-term improvement initiatives in collaboration with cross-functional asset improvement teams, typically in the areas of process safety, quality, reliability, and capacity. Help scope facility modifications and assist with commissioning and start-up. Utilize the Management of Change process
- Risk and Safety Management: Participate in HAZOPs, incident investigations, and risk assessment and management activities. Learn and apply systematic problem-solving techniques
- Support Major Plant Events: Assist with major plant events such as turnarounds, plant trials, and unit start-ups and shutdowns
Process Surveillance Role:
- Manufacturing Workflows Execution: Execute manufacturing workflows to measure mass balance, capacity utilization, energy performance, and catalyst & chemical utilization
- Fleet Monitoring and Benchmarking: Analyze unit performance versus unit best, other EM units, and external benchmarking. Collaborate with peers, site Manufacturing Engineers, and Technology specialists to identify opportunities to sustain and improve safety, reliability, and profitability, then define and execute plans to close
- Advanced Analytics and Productivity Tools: Pilot the use of advanced analytics and incubate the rollout of work productivity tools to improve overall work process efficiency

 

Start date: September, 2026

 

Work Term: 4,8,12 or 16 Months
