About the Role
GENERAL STATEMENT

Under the supervision of the Wellness Manager, the Wellness Coach will assist in promoting health and well-being through interactive educational sessions, programs, events, and wellness coaching for the CSULB community. Wellness Coaches are expected to adhere to teaching methods and modalities accepted as safe and appropriate by ASI Recreation and industry professionals that ASI Recreation promote.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1.  Develop and deliver educational presentations related to health and wellness.
  2.  Facilitate individual wellness coaching sessions.
  3. Reach out to student groups on campus to market the wellness coach program and offer educational sessions.
  4. Promote fitness and wellness programs during on-campus special events. 
  5. Collaborate with SRWC and ASI program areas.
  6. Maintain complete client files and tracking.
  7. Maintain all certifications and written and oral communication with other student staff, supervisors, and administrative staff.
  8. Attend staff meetings, trainings, and workshops.
  9. Promote and represent ASI, the SRWC, and the wellness program at campus events.
  10. Model, promote, and consistently enforce ASI Recreation policies.
  11. Provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for staff and participants.
  12. Ensure confidentiality of client information by following HIPAA compliance.
  13. Other duties as assigned, reasonably within the scope of the job

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Education and/or Experience

Kinesiology majors are preferred but not required—concurrent enrollment in six or more units at CSULB. Completion of the KIN 412 class with ACE certification obtained by the end of the first semester, while working for the SRWC. 

 

Knowledge and Abilities

Successful candidates will possess knowledge of recreation and wellness activities and the ability to connect well with students, alumni, and community members. Must be willing to work with an ethnically and culturally diverse group of student staff and volunteers. Exceptional customer skills, dependability and punctuality are a must. Must possess enhanced leadership skills and be able to work in a diverse environment. 

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Currently holds minimum certification in one or more of the following entities: Ace Health Coach certification or reasonable substitute. 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Schedule

This position operates year-round, including during academic breaks. Work hours during summer and winter sessions will be determined by the supervisor. Employees are required to maintain availability for at least 8 hours per week, with the flexibility to work up to 20 hours or more as needed. The schedule may include evening and weekend shifts based on operational needs.

The employee is occasionally required to walk to other offices within the building and around the campus. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
