About The Company
Isar Aerospace develops next generation rockets for sustainable access to space for small and medium satellites and satellite constellations.
About the Role

Mission Brief

The topic of your thesis revolves around the second design iteration of a heat exchanger for the tank pressurization system. This heat exchanger uses waste heat from the engine to increase the temperature of cryogenic helium before it is fed into the propellant tanksThe goal of this design iteration is to improve our understanding of the heat exchanger system (and its dynamics) and to reduce overall system mass and helium consumption. This will include testing of a sub-scale model of the pressurization system and heat exchanger, data analysis and model validation.

Your Role in Our Space Mission

  • Refine an existing system model of pressurization system and heat exchanger
  • Validate and tune model using experimental data and estimate the effect of soot deposition on heat exchanger performance
  • Using the validated system model to optimize a second iteration of the heat exchanger geometry
  • Assist in conducting experimental campaigns and data analysis
  • Analyze start-up transients of heat exchanger outflow using model and test data
  • Defining parameters for a temperature control system for the pressurization helium
