This internship opportunity will help support the Corporate Engineering team located in Tonawanda, NY.
Purpose:
Provide a student interested in Engineering experience in a manufacturing/industrial setting while helping to support Capital Engineering projects.
Objectives:
Adhere to Alkegen’s safety standards in all work settings (office, laboratory and plant)
Work directly with engineering mentor to execute assigned capital projects
Support plant-scale production trials
Communicate effectively (maintain auditable lab records, report data accurately)
Minor travel (including local plants to support development activities at production-scale)

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
Pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, paper engineering, industrial engineering, or a closely related program
Completed mathematics through pre-calculus
A course in statistics at high school, or preferably at the college level, is highly desirable.
1 year college-level chemistry including laboratory
Experience with rudimentary lab practices such as accurate weighing, handling strong acids and bases, and titration is highly desirable
1 year of organic chemistry is preferred
Experience with Microsoft Office programs, proficiency with Excel formulas
Compensation:
$23/hour
Goals:
Learn capital project safety essentials in a manufacturing environment
Participate in Detailed Design, Construction and Commissioning phases of capital project delivery
Gain practical experience in vendor procurement and construction execution
Present outcomes of main project at the end of the summer to plant and corporate leadership
