This internship opportunity will help support the Corporate Engineering team located in Tonawanda, NY.

Purpose: 

Provide a student interested in Engineering experience in a manufacturing/industrial setting while helping to support Capital Engineering projects. 

Objectives: 

  • Adhere to Alkegen’s safety standards in all work settings (office, laboratory and plant)

  • Work directly with engineering mentor to execute assigned capital projects

  • Support plant-scale production trials

  • Communicate effectively (maintain auditable lab records, report data accurately)

  • Minor travel (including local plants to support development activities at production-scale)

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, paper engineering, industrial engineering, or a closely related program

  • Completed mathematics through pre-calculus

  • A course in statistics at high school, or preferably at the college level, is highly desirable.

  • 1 year college-level chemistry including laboratory

  • Experience with rudimentary lab practices such as accurate weighing, handling strong acids and bases, and titration is highly desirable

  • 1 year of organic chemistry is preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs, proficiency with Excel formulas

Compensation:

  • $23/hour

Goals: 

  • Learn capital project safety essentials in a manufacturing environment

  • Participate in Detailed Design, Construction and Commissioning phases of capital project delivery

  • Gain practical experience in vendor procurement and construction execution

  • Present outcomes of main project at the end of the summer to plant and corporate leadership
