As an Industrial Placement Vehicle Performance Engineer, you will support the Vehicle Performance Group in simulation-based analysis to guide car development, race strategy, and setup direction. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and contribute to offline simulation tools, helping extract performance insights from scenario-based simulations. 

This role is ideal for students with strong technical foundations in motorsport or automotive engineering, and a passion for simulation, data analysis, and vehicle dynamics. 

 

  • Assist in running and analysing offline vehicle simulations (e.g., lap time simulation, setup sweeps)
  • Support the development and maintenance of simulation models and post-processing tools
  • Collaborate with other Technical departments to evaluate car updates and setup changes
  • Contribute to pre-event and post-event analysis using simulation data
  • Help correlate simulation results with track data and driver-in-loop (DiL) feedback
  • Participate in factory-based race support activities 
  • Support full car rig testing activities
  • Consistently and proactively demonstrates the team values and behaviours
  • Consistently follows H&S, Compliance, Sustainability, Policy and Best Practices

What do you need to bring to the team?

  • A degree quantitative in nature e.g Maths, Physics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in at least one data analysis language (e.g., Python, MATLAB).
  • Ability to interpret simulation and real-world data to extract actionable performance conclusions.
  • A proactive mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and a detail-oriented approach.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Desirable (Not Essential)

  • Good understanding of vehicle dynamics, race car performance fundamentals, and simulation methods.
  • Experience working with lap time simulation tools.
  • Experience using motorsport data tools (e.g., ATLAS, MoTeC, Pi Toolbox).
  • Internship or placement year experience in motorsport or high-performance automotive engineering.
